Buying | Estate Agents | Selling

When Nicola Jones and her partner Pete made the happy decision to sell their homes and move in together, they embarked on a journey that would lead them to understand that not all estate agents are the same.

Nicola kindly agreed to share her journey with us in this interview.

How did you come to use Phillips George?

As soon as Nicola decided to sell her two properties, she knew who she would call; “I had used Phillip George for many years to let my property when I was working away from home, so I called Clare Phillips straightaway. She, and the team at Phillips George had done a great job managing my let and I had never had any problems. Sure enough, the two sales went through swiftly and painlessly, as they should.”

“Pete put his house on the market at the same time with another estate agent, but rather than the process being smooth, we were beset with problems. The estate agent didn’t return calls, was unable to answer basic questions from potential buyers about the property, missed appointments and didn’t proactively suggest the property to buyers viewing other properties, even when they were viewing on the same street. They just weren’t interested or motivated.”

What was the low point in your property sale?

Nicola does not need time to think about this question. She takes a deep breath and responds; “We found a new build we both loved. I had already sold my house with Phillips George, but Pete’s house was still on the market and didn’t look like it was going to sell. It meant we missed out on the new build and had to start looking again.”

“We wanted to buy in Melton and hoped to get everything in place in time for the schools starting the new academic year. We had had enough. We called Clare and asked Phillips George to sell the house for us. Once again, they delivered for us quickly and efficiently.”

What was the high point in your property sale?

“Once Clare was on the case everything fell in place. We knew that we were in good hands. Soon we had sold the property and were ready to move. We found a house, quickly exchanged and completed in seven weeks in time for the new term in Melton.”

How did Phillips George make your journey better or easier?

“That’s easy;” says Nicola, “Good communication. Phillips George are really efficient and always came back to us when they said they would. They were great with other parties, firm but fair, making sure we were not messed around. I really trusted their knowledge and experience for the right advice.”

Do you have any advice for other sellers?

“Really choose your estate agent carefully – choose the person who will be selling, not the estate agent company. Before this experience I thought that all estate agents were the same, but big companies don’t do the selling for you it is the people, the estate agents who are actually selling your house that is the most important consideration. Ask for recommendations and look at reviews, and don’t go with people who always tell you what you want to hear. A good estate agent will challenge you and give you the best advice and sometimes it might not be what you want to hear.”

How were Phillips George different from the estate agent you used before?

“They are really caring. They care about their clients and care about what they do.”
